The Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (ORE Catapult) is one of a number of Catapults set up by Innovate UK to accelerate the deployment of innovative technology in the UK.

With primary locations in Glasgow and Blyth, Northumberland, ORE Catapult is working with industry and academia to identify, develop, prove and de-risk promising new technologies and bring them to market. It is helping to reduce the cost of offshore renewable energy, supporting the growth of the industry and creating UK benefit.

We are currently looking for a Business Development Proposals Manager who will manage and develop R&D and commercial project proposals focussed on improving the operational performance of offshore renewables. The role will also assist the O&M Strategy Manager in industry engagement, SME support activities, project development and identification of new product/service area opportunities for the Operational Performance (OP) team. The position will be based in Glasgow.


What are my key responsibilities?

  • Support the analysis, understanding and solution search to key problems and challenges in the offshore renewables industry.

  • Support development of ORE Catapult projects, products and services which enable collaboration with companies, universities and research organisations to address key problems and challenges in the offshore renewables industry.

  • Engage with colleagues and national/international companies, universities and research organisations to develop collaborative R&D project ideas and opportunities which are of fundamental benefit to the ORE Catapult in terms of achieving the revenue growth targets as part of the company strategic plan.

  • Present product, service and collaborative project opportunities to aid both internal and external stakeholder buy-in.

  • Lead/support the delivery of proposal bids/quotations through efficient preparation of detailed, innovative and robust business cases containing key technical, budget and timing plan content (including funding identified and secured/to be secured).

  • Develop commercial/R&D enquiries by working closely with clients, research providers, colleagues and project partners.

  • Support the O&M Strategy Manager to maintain regular communications with key technology development partners, major turbine OEM’s, SMEs, wave and tidal developers and funding providers at national, regional and international levels.


What do I need to qualify for this role?

Educated to degree level or equivalent in an engineering/scientific discipline, the successful candidate will have R&D experience including R&D proposal development and business development related to R&D. Ideally with a research/public funding background, preferably linked to offshore renewables with a track record of preparing and writing successful funding bids at both national and international levels.
