Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult is excited to be recruiting for a Data & Digitalisation Team Lead to be based within our Operational Performance directorate.

The UK Operations & Maintenance Centre of Excellence (OMCE) is building on the Humber region’s energy heritage and extensive experience of servicing offshore wind farms. It will be a national centre of excellence with international impact.

Operations and maintenance activities make up almost a quarter of the lifetime costs of an offshore wind project. By bringing together offshore wind owners, operators, supply chain, industry leaders, regulators and academia, the OMCE will work with UK industry to drive solution-focused innovation to O&M methodologies and best practices.

By acting early, being bold and decisive, we can accelerate our digital transformation as we lead post-Covid-19 recovery with cutting edge technology, for the future of offshore renewable energy generation.

 

Tell me more about the position?

As Data & Digitalisation Team Lead you will lead a team of data scientists, analysts and engineers to undertake delivery of a broad portfolio of R&D projects, programmes and commercial services driving continued reduction in the levelised cost of energy (LCoE) from offshore wind farms. 

The Data & Digitalisation Team supports the continued evolution of the offshore renewable energy sector; improving performance, reliability and utilisation capabilities for owner operators. We provide value-added analysis and procedural development to accelerate data-driven decision making from concept through to real-world application strategies. Supporting an extensive portfolio of innovators, manufacturers and owner operators, our goal is to incentivise the UK supply chain, realising world-class status within the global Offshore Renewable Energy Sector.

The successful candidate for this position will likely come from a strong data and digital background preferably with, however not limited to an engineering bias. A unique opportunity to make a game-changing difference to an already revolutionary industry.

With well-developed leadership and team management skills, you will be accountable for the development, deployment and maintenance of the team strategy, creating real-world solutions for the ever-evolving requirements of our pioneering client base. Commercially focussed, you will approach our portfolio of projects with a Return on Investment (ROI) mindset, maintaining a keen focus on the value we are providing to our internal and external customers. Partnering with our client base you will lead your team in the development and / or commercialisation of methodologies across the UK Renewable Energy Supply Chain.

A passion for the sector coupled with a keen interest in continuous improvement will support the successful candidate in developing and maintaining a currency of knowledge of the latest developments across the sector.

As Data & Digitalisation Team Lead you will build mutually beneficial partnerships with UK businesses and innovators, ensuring our activities remain relevant to the challenges faced by our clients. Collaboration with our Business Development Teams will assist in defining the vision for your team and assisting the O&M activities of the UK Supply Chain in realising world-class status.

This position will be the technical authority behind the Data & Digitalisation Team, responsible for the delivery of Data & Digitalisation research projects, you’ll ensure a high quality of accurate work is delivered on time and within budget.

The successful candidate will possess highly developed interpersonal skills and will have proven experience of leading and inspiring others concerning digital solutions. This is a rare chance to develop and promote pioneering insights and methodologies which leave a lasting, positive legacy in the development of the UK Renewable Energy Supply Chain.

What do I need to qualify for this role?

  • Minimum of Five (5) years professional experience in a relevant discipline
  • Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of applied data and digital technology applications
  • Knowledge of the renewables sector (i.e. electrical/mechanical plant, planning and consent, commissioning, operations and maintenance, operational performance, power performance assessment, decommissioning)
  • Experience in project or resource management
  • Experience leading innovative and technical projects and staff
  • Proven stakeholder management skills – owning proposals, negotiate and collaborate where appropriate, maximising value for ORE Catapult and the industry
  • Motivated and strong team player
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrable experience at all levels
  • Proficient in standard software packages including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook
  • Familiarity with some or all of the following software languages; Python, SQL, Matlab, Octave, Powershell, PowerBI, ArcGIS
