Electrical Maintenance Engineer

Location: Blyth

 

The Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (ORE Catapult) is one of a number of Catapults set up by Innovate UK to accelerate the deployment of innovative technology in the UK.

 

With primary locations in Glasgow and Blyth, and regionally facilities in Hull, Levenmouth, Wales and Cornwall.  ORE Catapult is working with industry and academia to identify, develop, prove and de-risk promising new technologies and bring them to market. It is helping to reduce the cost of offshore renewable energy, supporting the growth of the industry and creating UK benefit.

 

We are currently looking for an Electrical Maintenance Engineer to join our Testing & Validation Directorate who will provide electrical engineering maintenance leadership of the electrical maintenance team. This role will also include managing specialist contractors and client installation personnel across all OREC site facilities to ensure all operational assets are reliable and downtime is minimised.

 

What are my key responsibilities?

  • To ensure that site HV/MV equipment and facilities are reliable and therefore maintained to an impeccable standard.

  • To work with the existing ORE Catapult Control Person as detailed in BP2175. HV Intervention System and become a fully qualified Authorised Person following training from our Senior Authorised Person. (SAP)

  • Responsible for line managing, overseeing and leadership of the electrical maintenance technicians in conducting reliability planned and reactive maintenance activities and fault-finding and associated record keeping of site assets and facilities and HV/MV plant as necessary.

  • Work with ORE Catapult Electrical Design department staff to implement infrastructure changes and integration of client equipment into facilities

  • Responsible for the mentoring and development of the electrical maintenance team, including identification of training needs that supports business objectives

  • To lead in the development and operate a formal maintenance regime for all electrical plant/equipment and tools, including HV systems.
  • Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with OREC permits and authorisation systems and all operational risks are minimised.

  • Support and promote Health & Safety, Environment & Quality as core business principles within an OHSAS 18001, ISO14001, ISO9001, ISO17025 environment.

  • Ensure all externally employed technical staff are fully briefed in all areas of operational requirements and site standards.

  • Propose and support improvements, future developments and efficiencies associated with all facilities and assets.

  • Assist the QA manager in obtaining and retaining quality standards as applicable

     

     

 

 

 

What do I need to qualify for this role?

  • Educated to a minimum of HNC with proven extended experience preferably in a similar operating environment or MV/LV variable frequency drives (VFD’s) would be beneficial

  • Relevant training in lifting/slinging including PUWER/LOLER regulations (desirable)

  • Installation fault-finding/rectification and maintenance of HV,MV & LV plant and equipment

  • Electrical Inspection and Testing Qualification (desirable).

  • Fully conversant with the current wiring regulations 18th Edition Qualification is desirable

  • Computer literate – good working knowledge of Microsoft packages;

  • A good understanding of Health & Safety practises and requirements including producing and reviewing details risk assessments and method statements

  • Experience of working in OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001, ISO 17025 environments.(desirable)

  • Motivated and strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills, able to communicate with senior staff both internally and externally

  • Analytical skills with the ability to use own initiative and problem solve, offering a range of solutions for project/test completion
