Financial Accountant

Location: Glasgow

The Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (ORE Catapult) is one of 11 Catapults set up by Innovate UK to accelerate the deployment of innovative technology in the UK.

With primary locations in Glasgow and Blyth, Northumberland, ORE Catapult is working with industry and academia to identify, develop, prove and de-risk promising new technologies and bring them to market. It is helping to reduce the cost of offshore renewable energy, supporting the growth of the industry and creating UK benefit.

What is the role?

We are currently looking for a Finance Accountant to join our Finance Team within Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, reporting into the Group Financial Controller

The role will be pivotal in ensuring there is an efficient financial processing capability within the organisation at all times, adequate analysis is provided for stakeholders throughout the business and will provided day to day operational support to both the Group Finance Controller and Finance Director.

What are my key responsibilities?

  • To supervise and coach Finance Assistants, ensuring the processing function is carried out accurately and in a timely basis at all times and taking the lead in their career development

  • Implement new processes to streamline the finance processing function

  • Cover processing workload as and when required

  • Weekly reconciliation of debtor balances and chasing debt with external parties

  • Conducting regular VAT checks on all processing; ensuring accuracy and correction of errors immediately

  • Monthly VAT reconciliation / submission to HMRC

  • Monthly EC sales and intrastate submission to HMRC

  • Preparation of the following on a monthly basis: revenue journals; balance sheet reconciliations; profit and loss analysis; management asset accounts for Levenmouth turbine; management accounts for joint ventures - WEBS

  • Preparation of quarterly funding claims whilst maintaining appropriate audit records

  • Preparation of various analysis for key stakeholders

  • Assist with annual budget and quarterly forecasting process

  • Sign off weekly payment runs up to £50k (after cash check position with Group Finance Controller)

  • Create and maintain sales order spreadsheets to detail all revenue streams and ties out with nominal ledger

  • Responsibility for maintaining monthly accruals and prepayments across the business

  • Maintain Sage project accounting – set up new project codes as required

  • Maintain fixed asset register within Sage

  • Liaise with auditors during annual fieldwork

  • Collate board and audit packs as required

What do I need to qualify for this role?

  • Qualified Accountant – Minimum of 3 years PQE

  • Have up to date knowledge of processing routines

  • Sage 200 experience, not essential, but highly desirable

  • Excellent verbal and communication skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft office – Excel, Word & Outlook

  • Keen eye for detail

  • Working knowledge of finance daily processing advantageous

  • Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines

  • Team player with confidence to work with colleagues across the organisation at various seniority levels
