Graduate Engineer – Controls and Instrumentation

Location:   Blyth , Northumberland


The Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (ORE Catapult) is one of a network of Catapults established by Innovate UK to accelerate the commercialisation of innovative technologies in the UK.

With primary locations in Glasgow, Scotland and Blyth, Northumberland, the ORE Catapult is working with industry and academia to identify, develop, prove and de-risk promising new technologies and bring them to market. It is helping to reduce the cost of offshore renewable energy, supporting the growth of the industry and creating UK benefit.

What is the role?

We are recruiting  a Graduate Engineer to join our Test and Validation team within Blyth.  As a key member of the Test & Validation team you will ensure that development and delivery of commercial and research projects are underpinned by robust, expert and sustainable engineering processes, procedures and capability.

What are my key responsibilities?

  • Support and promote Health & Safety, Environment & Quality as core business principles within an OHSAS 18001, ISO14001, ISO9001, ISO17025 environment.

  • Provide technical expertise for the controls hardware and software design within the installation and commissioning of the testing facilities

  • Provide specialist technical support as necessary to the commercial and research activities including, but not limited to, engineering design, tender preparation/evaluation, budget preparation/review and customer and supplier interface

  • Maintain currency of knowledge of the latest renewable and other relevant technologies, standards, engineering, good practice and the application of these in a research and commercial environment.

  • Develop and disseminate engineering knowledge of wind, wave and tidal sectors within ORE Catapult and to key external stakeholders.


What do I need to qualify for this role?


Educated to at least degree level in a relevant discipline, the successful candidate will have

  • Relevant engineering degree

  • Knowledge of electrical/mechanical generating plant and apparatus

  • Familiarity with advanced specialist engineering software in an inter-disciplinary project setting

  • Knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Renewable Energy Industry; Offshore Engineering; Engineering Design and Analysis; Industrial Manufacturing;

  • Sound pragmatic approach to problem solving with the ability to autonomously tackle and provide solutions for engineering challenges.

  • Motivation and initiative to continually develop own abilities and technical skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and be a team player, supporting others where required.

  • Good time management skills with ability to plan and manage own utilisation
