Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult is pleased to share that we are now recruiting for a Head of Business Improvement to be situated within our Professional Services directorate.
Comprising of experts in human resources, finance, legal, procurement, information technology and administration, our Professional Services Team facilitates the smooth running of ORE Catapult.
The Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (ORE Catapult) is the UK’s leading technology innovation and research centre for offshore renewable energy. We play a key role in delivering the UK’s net zero targets by accelerating the creation and growth of UK companies in the offshore renewable energy sector. We utilise our state-of-the-art facilities, research and engineering capabilities to bring together industry, and academia to drive innovation in renewable energy to ultimately create UK jobs and economic benefit.
As Head of Business Improvement, you will play a leading and visible role in the transformation of our commercial culture, business efficiency and governance across the Catapult. This position will visibly lead this transformation, both operationally and culturally, partnering with the Executive and Senior Management Teams to engage the wider business on this journey.

As ORE Catapult continues to navigate a high-growth trajectory, the importance of robust process, systems, policy and procedure has never been more important, ensuring a strong foundation to build with assured stability and of course, sustained success. This Head of Business Improvement opportunity will play a centrifugal role in driving those evolutions throughout our multi-disciplinary organisation.
The preferred candidate will possess a depth of demonstrable experience in leading positive business change, partnering with colleagues to lead a positive cultural shift in working practice. We can only collectively, and progressively improve with the with the buy-in of all stakeholders and colleagues.
With a key focus on three principal areas of Commercial, Business Improvement and Governance you can expect to challenge perceptions, motivate, lead and inspire. Gaining a depth of understanding of our organisation and a currency of knowledge of our collective direction; so, what does this mean in practice?
Lead and develop our collective commercial acumen, ability and practice through a transformation in culture, elevating levels of understanding, from contractual awareness to business development, project management and overall return on investment. You will collaboratively devise and implement systemic and targeted improvement, which will stand the test of time and incorporate regional governance approaches to all systems, remaining observant of their respective maturity levels with due regard to the interests of all stakeholders. Furthermore, you will partner with the Finance Director and Company Secretary to control risk and ensure we remain legally compliant in all practices.
As a high-performing agent for positive change, you will possess demonstrable experience of operating with success in a similarly aspirated position. This position represents a key component in reaching our corporate objectives and sustaining our group-wide success.
What do I need to qualify for this role?
- A genuine passion and motivation for the mission and aims of the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult.
- Senior management experience in business improvement roles including a proven understanding of commercial practices, business improvement methodology and risk and compliance arrangements
- Broad commercial leadership credentials and a track record of motivating senior teams to deliver.
- Sound, independent judgement, with the ability to confidently express opinions and provide constructive challenge.
- Ability to forge effective relationships with key stakeholders internally and externally and a willingness to engage existing networks and build new relationships to help support our work.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to listen sensitively to the views of others, gaining trust and respect from colleagues.
- Personal credibility and integrity with strong influencing and negotiating skills.
- Commitment to and understanding of diversity and equality.
