High Voltage Test Laboratory Manager

Location: Blyth


The Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (ORE Catapult) is  looking for a High Voltage Test Laboratory Manager, who will manage a team of Engineers and Technicians to deliver High Voltage Tests and related activities within our Charles Parsons Technology Centre based in Blyth.  The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of laboratory operations and resources within the facility.

Our unique facilities, research and engineering capabilities bring together industry and academia and drive innovation.  This role will be based in our Blyth site, which has ambition to be internationally recognised as the go-to testing and validation centre for offshore renewables.  Activities around the Blyth play a critical part in acting as an access point to high value supply chains to help develop and validate new innovative technologies ready for the market. 


What are my key responsibilities?

  • To manage project teams to achieve robust project plans and maintain them through to completion and delivery to meet customers’ expectations.

  • To manage the facilities such that availability of the facility throughout tests is maximised and delivered on time and within budget

  • Sustain and continually improve the business’ quality assurance systems

  • Support in capturing and developing detailed knowledge in the testing facilities capabilities in conjunction with clients and other test facilities world-wide.

  • Support enquiry assessments and represent the company on asset, commercial and program issues

  • Assist in establishing and developing project management, resource planning and working processes and encourage adoption as appropriate

  • Lead lessons-learnt and programme development through engineering, supply chain and client/contractor reviews

  • Witness testing in other laboratories as part of project delivery


What do I need to qualify for this role?

Educated to degree level or equivalent in a recognised engineering discipline, with proven experience in managing teams with a high level of commercial awareness, the successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and all levels, both internally and externally and be confident in their presentation skills and ability.  We are looking for someone who is professional and comfortable operating in a customer and quality focussed business and who possesses effective planning and organisational skills, including time and project management.  Experience of HV testing and cable systems would be advantageous.
