The Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (ORE Catapult) is one of 11 Catapults set up by Innovate UK to accelerate the deployment of innovative technology in the UK.
With primary locations in Glasgow and Blyth, Northumberland, ORE Catapult is working with industry and academia to identify, develop, prove and de-risk promising new technologies and bring them to market. It is helping to reduce the cost of offshore renewable energy, supporting the growth of the industry and creating UK benefit.
What is the role?
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Research Engineer – Blades to ensure that the business maintains its position as a focal point for the sector and develops a position as the “go to” organisation for research, technical support and innovative collaboration. This position is based in Blyth
What are my key responsibilities?
Develop R & D strategy and a R & D programme for the blades/rotors area
Design and lead projects relating to the development of innovative solutions for the design and testing of blades and blade/rotor components for wind and marine turbines
Secure external research funding from both industry and public funders to increase our investment in the blade areas
Manage and lead a team of research engineers
Articulate ORE Catapults offering in the area of blades/rotors design and tests, benefits and saving to sponsors, developers, finance and insurance parties alike. This also involves discussing client requirements and implementing those ideas
Contribute to the formulation and technical leadership for R & D projects
Ensure that effective networks, relationships and communications with key universities
Ensure the technical and scientific quality of the deliverables
Engage with customers and support commercial and business development activities related to blades/rotors.
What do I need to qualify for this role?
A PhD degree or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline, preferable of Chartered status and post-doctorate research experience
Proven track record in technical research and development (e.g. PhD, papers, research, projects) is desirable
10 years plus experience in blades/rotors technology developments / research
Proven record in leading or managing technical research and development team
