Project Development Manager

Location: Glasgow


The Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (ORE Catapult) is one of a number of Catapults set up by Innovate UK to accelerate the deployment of innovative technology in the UK.

With primary locations in Glasgow and Blyth, and regionally facilities in Hull, Levenmouth, Wales and Cornwall.  ORE Catapult is working with industry and academia to identify, develop, prove and de-risk promising new technologies and bring them to market. It is helping to reduce the cost of offshore renewable energy, supporting the growth of the industry and creating UK benefit.


What is the role?

The Project Development Manager will join the Operational Performance Directorate and will be responsible for the developing and coordinating of submitting bids for public funding projects. This involves collaboration between ORE Catapult, industry and academia aimed at improving the operational performance of offshore renewable energy assets. They will assist the Business Development Lead in industry engagement, SME support activities, project development and identification of new product/service area opportunities for the OP team.


What are my key responsibilities?

  • Evaluate, understand and provide solutions for key problems and challenges in the offshore renewables industry, with a focus on operational offshore assets.

  • Develop projects, products and services which enable collaboration with companies, universities and research organisations to address key problems and challenges in the offshore renewables industry.

  • Engage with colleagues and national/international companies, universities and research organisations to develop collaborative project ideas and opportunities which are of fundamental benefit to ORE Catapult in terms of achieving the revenue growth targets as part of the company strategic plan.

  • Present product, service and collaborative project opportunities to aid both internal and external stakeholder buy-in.

  • Organise the delivery of proposal bids/quotations through efficient preparation of detailed, innovative and robust business cases containing key technical, budget and timing plan content (including funding identified and secured/to be secured).

  • Develop commercial/R&D enquiries by working closely with clients, research providers, colleagues and project partners.

  • Maintain regular communications with key technology development partners, major turbine OEM’s, SMEs and funding providers at national, regional and international levels


What do I need to qualify for this role?

  • A degree (or equivalent) in an engineering/scientific discipline.

  • Experience with research/public funding, preferably linked to offshore renewables

  • Experience in developing R&D and commercial advisory (e.g. consultancy) project proposals.

  • Experience in preparing and writing successful funding bids at both national and/or international levels.

  • Experience of working in a relevant industry sector, preferably the development, operations and maintenance of wind/marine energy plant.

  • Good interpersonal, communication and time management skills.

  • Innovative and creative thinking.

  • Tenacity, persistence and determination to succeed in overcoming obstacles.

  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
