Project Engineer

Location: Grimsby

 

The Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (ORE Catapult) is one of a number of Catapults set up by Innovate UK to accelerate the deployment of innovative technology in the UK.

With primary locations in Glasgow and Blyth, and regionally facilities in Hull, Grimsby, Levenmouth, Wales, Lowestoft and Cornwall.  ORE Catapult is working with industry and academia to identify, develop, prove and de-risk promising new technologies and bring them to market. It is helping to reduce the cost of offshore renewable energy, supporting the growth of the industry and creating UK benefit.

We are now recruiting for Project Engineer who will be responsible for deploying sound engineering principles to support the delivery of ORE Catapults diverse range of activities. This position is responsible for the development and delivery of collaborative engineering projects; including research, development and testing. Reporting directly into the Engineering Manager your work will be underpinned by suitable technical expertise and competence.

What is the role?

  • Collaborating with the wider ORE Catapult providing engineering design activities, tender preparation and evaluation, budgetary preparation and review. You’ll be comfortable maintaining supplier and customer interface relating to all aspects of delivery
  • To make a success of the position you’ll work to maintain an understanding of the latest renewable energy developments, including relevant technologies, standards and improved engineering practices to support the quality and development of your work
  • You will develop and disseminate engineering knowledge of wind, wave and tidal sectors supporting key stakeholders within the ORE Catapult
  • Assist in the development of projects, contributing engineering expertise at the development phase and assisting with the development of financial models and reduction of LCOE (levelized cost of energy)
  • Provide engineering leadership to deliver projects, including calculation and analysis, drafting reports, interaction and interfacing with project partners, technology assessment and the development of testing and demonstration plans
  • This role supports a multi-disciplinary team, you should be comfortable reviewing and contributing to the quality development of peer’s work (reporting, design, specification, drawing etc.)
  • Participate in dissemination activities as required, including presentations and publications
  • Maintain current knowledge of renewable energy technologies and the offshore wind industry
  • Promote and deliver Quality as a core principle in everything we do
  • The successful candidate will be accustomed to working in a culture of continuous improvement and development, preferably within a business accredited with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001, and ISO 17025
  • Proactively populate project records and participate in project progress monitoring and reporting.

What do I need to qualify for this role?

  • Educated to at least degree level in a relevant discipline
  • Sound knowledge of electrical/mechanical generating plant and systems
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Motivated and team oriented, capable of working individually, within and across multi-functional project teams.
  • Knowledge of and the application of good practice engineering methodologies  
  • Good understanding of H&S legislation pertaining to offshore operations is preferable but not essential
  • Experience of working in ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001, ISO 17025 environments.
  • Experience of offshore wind preferred but not essential
