The Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (ORE Catapult) is one of a number of Catapults set up by Innovate UK to accelerate the deployment of innovative technology in the UK.

With primary locations in Glasgow and Blyth, and regionally facilities in Hull, Levenmouth, Wales and Cornwall. ORE Catapult partners with industry and academia to identify, develop, prove and de-risk promising new technologies and introduce them to market. ORE Catapult is the UK’s leading technology innovation and research centre for offshore renewable energy.  We are delivering the UK’s largest clean growth opportunity by accelerating the creation and growth of UK companies in offshore renewable energy. Our unique facilities, research and engineering capabilities bring together industry and academia and drive innovation, focusing on three main areas: testing and validating offshore renewable energy technologies; research & innovation; improving the operational performance of the existing fleet of offshore renewable energy infrastructure.

What is the role?

We are excited to be recruiting for an experienced Project Manager to join our Research & Disruptive Innovation directorate as part of our operations in Wales.

This post will be part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

ORE Catapult is creating an operational presence in Pembroke Dock, South West Wales, which will deliver a range of activities supporting the Welsh and UK supply chains. We are already delivering two high-profile projects:

  • The Marine Energy Engineering Centre of Excellence (MEECE) in Pembroke Dock, South West Wales. MEECE will work with Welsh Universities and with the Marine Energy Test Area, to deliver innovation projects on behalf of Welsh companies, to demonstrate, verify and validate new technologies. MEECE will be funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

  • The Milford Haven Energy Kingdom (MH:EK) project, which will design and trialintegrated local markets for hydrogen, to pave the way for the national energy infrastructure along Milford Haven waterway to transition to a renewables-hydrogen future.

This role will play a pivotal part in ensuring that these projects deliver their agreed output indicators, within defined timescales, budget and compliance with ERDF and Innovate-UK governance.

A new position which is part of a growing office whose focus is to explore new renewable energy solutions, testing the viability of new products propositions, services and solutions.

Supporting ORE Catapult colleagues and multiple external partners, you will manage the delivery of large multi-faceted projects managing multiple workstreams ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope and budget. The composition of our project portfolio in addition nature our funding requires careful stage gating and quality reporting.

The successful candidate will be meticulously process driven and passionate about operating to exacting standards. They will share best practices with the wider team and ensuring continuous improvements are made to our reporting capabilities, from both a financial and operational perspective.

To succeed in the role the Project Manager may have some, or all of the following;

  • Good relationship management skills, the ability to collaborate successfully with senior stakeholders both internally and externally

  • Ability to ensure all stakeholders are aware of their role, responsibilities and deliverables

  • Sound planning and analysis skills with the foresight to anticipate problems and take corrective actions and or create solutions to ensure project delivery

  • Experienced in the management of reporting cycles in order to provide accurate, informative and timely status updates

  • A stickler for process who is accustomed to applying discipline in relation to compliance whilst fostering the continual development of healthy working relationships

  • Commercial Awareness - good grasp of engineering and how businesses work

  • Experience of negotiating and managing commercial contracts

  • Comfortable collaborating with colleagues to develop their project understanding and aid the timely provision of accurate information

  • Experienced in influencing and negotiating

  • Creative and solution-oriented thinking

  • Tenacity, persistence and determination to succeed in overcoming obstacles

  • Accustomed to working at pace, handling change capably and confidently

  • Contribute (or ensure resources are available) to early development projects, giving advice to the Project Teams on “deliverability” and likelihood of commercialisation

  • Awareness of occupational Health & Safety issues

  • Confident preparing detailed reports, often detailing adherence to governance pertaining to EU funding

  • A genuine interest in the renewables sector

  • You will have a flexible attitude to working within a small team, with shared responsibilities

Desirable (Please note that these are desirable but are not required to apply for the role)

  • Experience of European and public funded projects and public procurement rules

  • A recognised project management certificate or diploma

  • Strong command of English and Maths

  • A track record of successfully leading multi-disciplinary teams in the delivery of projects and/or programmes

  • A degree or equivalent in a technical or business discipline

Bydd y rôl hon yn chwarae rhan allweddol wrth sicrhau bod y prosiectau hyn yn cyflawni'r dangosyddion cynnyrch y cytunwyd arnynt, o fewn yr amserlenni penodol a chan gydymffurfio â rheolau ERDF ac Innovate-UK.
