The Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (ORE Catapult) is one of a number of Catapults set up by Innovate UK to accelerate the deployment of innovative technology in the UK.

With primary locations in Glasgow and Blyth, Northumberland, ORE Catapult is working with industry and academia to identify, develop, prove and de-risk promising new technologies and bring them to market. It is helping to reduce the cost of offshore renewable energy, supporting the growth of the industry and creating UK benefit.

What is the role?

We are currently looking for a Project Manager within our Operations Performance Directorate to ensure that the projects and programmes initiate by ORE Catapult are managed to deliver within the constraints of the agreed timescales, budget and finance structure.    This is a key role in the successful delivery of the Directorate’s project portfolio.

The Project Manager will be responsible in defining and delivering the execution phase of projects and programmes across the off-shore renewables energy sector and will follow defined project management guidance, standards and acceptance criteria to deliver projects within the constraints of the agreed timescales, budget and finance structures.

What are the key responsibilities?

The position will:

  • Ensure the project management of individual projects and programmes is appropriate and consistent with ORE Catapult strategy and delivered according to the Company’s policies and procedures.

  • Scope, plan and execute project plans utilising best practice project management methodologies, tools and resources.

  • Implement the appropriate organisation structure for managing the individual projects and programmes through consideration of level of investment, geographical location and environment, complexity and risk.

  • Manage project team resources; providing opportunities and direction that will inspire and motivate people to achieve superior results.

  • Coordinate project activities and risk management.

  • Provide input, support and expertise to project teams to ensure that input is given to early stage development activities.

  • Communicate effectively, providing regular and ad-hoc reports to senior management within ORE Catapult Management Team and beyond (in the format & quality required) and foster open communication across teams.

  • Control budget for projects and programmes ensuring that cost forecasts remain within the overall project budgets.

  • Commit to ensuring and maintaining a high standard of health & safety awareness through encouraging safe behaviours within and out with direct reports, contractors and other stakeholders.

  • Ensure all projects and programmes are closed out effectively, including all relevant and necessary documentation filed and stored appropriately.

What do I need to qualify for this role?

Educated to degree or equivalent in a technical discipline, the successful candid will hold a recognised project management certificate or diploma and have 3-5 years proven project management experience with a technical sector such as energy, utilities or construction.  We are looking for someone who has a track record of successfully leading multi-disciplined teams in the delivery of projects and programmes together with experience of negotiating and managing commercial contracts.

Whilst not essential, the following would also be desirable

  • Chartered status in a technical discipline,

  • Experience of European and public funded projects and public procurement rules,

  • Sound relationship management skills and confidence working with Project Directors, Senior Management (internal and external) and consultants.

  • Influencing, negotiating, and communication skills.

  • Sound planning and analysis skills with the ability to look forward and see / anticipate problems and thereafter plan and implement mitigating solutions to negate the effect of such problems.

  • Innovation and creative thinking.

  • Problem solving – dealing with conflicting requirements.

  • Tenacity, persistence and determination to succeed in overcoming obstacles.

  • High capacity for change and experience of leading others through change.

  • Contribute (or ensure resources are available) to early development projects, giving advice to the Project Teams on “deliverability” and commercialization.
