The Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (ORE Catapult) is one of a number of Catapults set up by Innovate UK to accelerate the deployment of innovative technology in the UK.

With primary locations in Glasgow and Blyth, Northumberland, ORE Catapult is working with industry and academia to identify, develop, prove and de-risk promising new technologies and bring them to market. It is helping to reduce the cost of offshore renewable energy, supporting the growth of the industry and creating UK benefit.


What is the role?

We are currently looking for a Purchasing Officer who will be responsible for the Purchasing activities within ORE Catapult’s commercial arm (ORE Catapult Development Services Ltd (ODSL)) and developing the purchasing processes whilst building relationships with third parties.

The Purchasing Officer will manage the day to day purchasing activities within ORE Catapult’s commercial arm while developing existing standards and implementing new standards where required. They will ensure all materials and services are delivered on time and in accordance with the required Purchasing Processes, which will require expediting of orders and services, root causing and resolution of issues. The Purchasing Officer will develop relationships with key third parties and facilitate between them and ORE Catapult in relation to any issues or problems identified.


What are my key responsibilities?

  • Provide Purchasing support cross functionally throughout ORE Catapult including Quality Assurance, Engineering, Project Managers, Works co-ordinators, Finance and Central Stores to provide an efficient purchasing process

  • Work with suppliers/contractors to ensure specific targets are achieved

  • Monitoring and feedback on KPI’s with existing suppliers/contractors. Produce Management Information reports regarding order status

  • Ensure there are no project issues or delays due to Purchasing processes, material availability/contractor delays

  • Facilitating any issues with suppliers/contractors and subsequent resolution

  • Developing Supplier/Contractor relationships to enhance the quality of performance and responsiveness

  • Support the creation and improvement of purchasing processes, procedures, and tools

  • Any other duties that may reasonably be required from time to time to deliver ORE Catapult objectives

  • Escalation to the Supply Chain Manager of any relevant issues.


What do I need to qualify for this role?

To succeed in this role, you must have a minimum of two years experience of working in a structured supply chain environment, preferably in a purchasing role within an Engineering, Construction or Offshore environment.

A good understanding of the principles and frameworks of successful project management is required as is good commercial knowledge. You must have strong relationship building, influencing and negotiating skills in addition to excellent communication skills at all levels. Effective time management and organizational skills are also required as is the ability to remain calm under pressure while managing daily priorities.
