With primary locations in Glasgow and Blyth, Northumberland, ORE Catapult is the UK’s leading technology innovation and research centre for offshore renewable energy.  We are delivering the UK’s largest clean growth opportunity by accelerating the creation and growth of UK companies in offshore renewable energy. Our unique facilities, research and engineering capabilities bring together industry and academia and drive innovation, focusing on three main areas: testing and validating offshore renewable energy technologies; research & innovation; improving the operational performance of the existing fleet of offshore renewable energy infrastructure.

What is the role?

We are pleased to be recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor to support our Project Management Team and the overall Project Management office based within our Test & Validation directorate.  

Our Test & Validation site, based in Blyth, Northumberland, is responsible for an extensive range of complex projects, often collaborating with OEM partners. The success of our work requires diligent project governance and administration produced to consistently high standards on a timely basis.

An understanding of engineering projects and the management of information to execute work which is on time, to budget and within scope is crucial to the success of the preferred candidate for this role.

What are the key responsibilities?

The task focus of the role will include;

  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary colleagues and stakeholders to ensure the timely recording of all project related information
  • Supporting the management and execution of financial processes including time sheet approval, application for payments and generation of procurement requisitions
  • Documentation of project information including but not limited to Change Notes, Technical Queries, Early Warnings
  • Preparation of spend forecasts including monthly financial reporting
  • Management of resourcing and materials budgets
  • Production of internal and external project progress reports
  • Documentation of meetings

Desired qualities and experience;

  • Strong interpersonal skills, comfortable adapting and collaborating well across multiple disciplines
  • Accustomed to working in a team environment
  • Comfortable and experienced in collating and recording financial information pertaining to budgets and forecasts for project work-in-progress
  • Strong command of both written and verbal English
  • Accustomed to working of own initiative, sourcing and undertaking solutions to issues and problems as they arise
  • A passion for working with detail, producing work of a consistently high standard
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Willing to be multifunctional, working across various teams and disciplines with ease
  • A genuine interest in learning new skills, developing knowledge of projects within the Testing & Validation space

What do I need to qualify for this role?

  • Degree educated – either in engineering or a reasonable alternative discipline
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a similar position preferably within technical project environments
  • Familiar with the tasks and activities associated with an engineering environment
  • A background operating in a high-volume environment with fast-paced operational teams
  • Ability to track and control of sizeable complex budgets – (experience with Sage is desirable)
  • Preferably 3 years’ experience of working in a similar environment
