Do you want to work for the UK’s leading Technology, Innovation and Research Centre for Offshore Renewable Energy?

Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult is recruiting a R&D Engineer - NEW MATERIALS for our site in Blyth, to support the Principal R&D Engineer - Blade Erosion on materials research projects, within the R&TC Manufacturing and Materials Team.

The role will be focused on research into materials solutions for the wind, wave and tidal renewable energy sectors, identified as a key strategic performance indicator in the industry.  

What will I do?

  • Support new material solution development and new/improved test method development
  • Use MATLAB modelling and DoE to support existing research areas
  • Develop and use MATLAB and FEA models for materials modelling and analysis
  • Support UK materials strategy development for renewable energy technologies
  • Create novel concepts and solutions for technical problems
  • Support the creation of public and privately funded research proposals
  • Deliver tasks and work packages for projects
  • Support internal and external customers with technical knowledge
  • Disseminate project outputs and research at academic and industry conferences via publication of articles
  • Write technical project reports

What are we looking for?

  • Degree or equivalent experience in materials engineering or other materials-related engineering/science discipline
  • Excellent capability using MATLAB and knowledge of DoE using JMP. Ansys capability desirable.
  • Knowledge of composite materials, coatings and adhesives, including manufacturing techniques, repair methods and failure modes
  • Knowledge of rain erosion and testing, as well as corrosion, sensors, NDT methods, electrical cables, concrete and metals
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to write detailed technical reports
  • Excellent data analysis skills
  • Experience and knowledge of international materials standardisation
