Regional Innovation Manager

Location:  ORBIS Energy, Lowestoft

The Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (ORE Catapult) is one of a number of Catapults set up by Innovate UK to accelerate the deployment of innovative technology in the UK.

With primary locations in Glasgow and Blyth, Northumberland, ORE Catapult is the UK’s leading technology innovation and research centre for offshore renewable energy.  We are delivering the UK’s largest clean growth opportunity by accelerating the creation and growth of UK companies in offshore renewable energy. Our unique facilities, research and engineering capabilities bring together industry and academia and drive innovation, focusing on three main areas: testing and validating offshore renewable energy technologies; research & innovation; improving the operational performance of the existing fleet of offshore renewable energy infrastructure.

What is the role?

We are currently looking for a Regional Innovation Manager within our Research & Disruptive Innovation Directorate, to support and develop the growth of the offshore wind sector in the New Anglia region.

The successful candidate will identify, design and deliver SME innovation Projects that help exploit ORE Catapult’s expertise for the benefits of companies in the region and will manage and strengthen Catapult’s regional engagement with key partners and clients.

This role will be based with the New Anglia LEP and will work across both the LEP team and ORE Catapult businesses with their nominated technical and support staff (in-house & externally appointed) to develop concepts and projects.

What are the key responsibilities?

The Regional Innovation Manager will;

·         Support the development of the Norfolk and Suffolk Energy Coast.

·         Build and develop strong networks with senior stakeholders both regionally and within the Offshore Renewable Energy sector.

·         Assist the development of written deliverables such as internal research and business plans, external technology foresight roadmaps, supply                 chain development and conference presentations.

·         Identify and support development of commercialisation opportunities for ORE Catapult products and services in the region.

·         Support the roll out of the activities associated with the Offshore Wind Growth Partnership (OWGP).

·         Contribute to development of the business through improvements to innovation management processes leading to the growth of Catapult                       resources in the region.

·         Ensure project delivery is accordance with New Anglia LEP and ORE Catapult governance, policies and procedures.

·         Manage reach back to ORE Catapult expertise to support project concept. development, costing new proposals and to ensure successful project           delivery.

·         Promote the capabilities and expertise of ORE Catapult in the region.

·         Reporting on progress to the New Anglia LEP and the All Energy Industry Council (leadership body for Norfolk & Suffolk) as required.

·         Marketing & Communications, awareness phrasing for the LEP and ORE Catapult products, services and case studies of local achievements.

What do I need to qualify for this role?

·         Ideally, a higher degree in engineering, business or related subject.

·         Understanding of innovation process.

·         Understanding of the Offshore Renewables Sector, UK Govt’s Industrial Strategy, Clean Growth Strategy and Offshore Wind Sector Deal.

·         Understanding of public and private sector funding and procurement models.

·         Data gathering skills through consultation, questionnaires and workshops.

·         Ability to collate, assess and analyse industry priorities and other data.

·         Excellent report writing skills for internal and external publication.

·         Confident presenting to wide range of audiences (conferences, working groups).

·         Experience of developing projects with multiple participants including work package definition and commercial terms.

·         Good stakeholder management skills and confidence working with Directors, Senior Management (internal & external) and consultants.

·         Influencing, negotiating, and communication skills.

·         The ability to look forward and anticipate problems and solve them.

·         Innovative and creative thinking and the ability to articulate this thinking

·         Tenacity, persistence and determination to succeed in overcoming obstacles.
